CBRE to relocate Melbourne office to Town Hall Place

  • 19 Dec 2023
Leading global commercial real estate services and investments company, CBRE has today announced it will be moving its Melbourne headquarters to Lendlease’s new Town Hall Place development located at the landmark intersection of Flinders and Swanston streets.

Relocating from 8 Exhibition Street, CBRE is set to offer its employees greater flexibility and additional floorspace to inspire its workforce at the iconic city location, occupying c.5,400sqm across levels 5 to 7 of the new commercial building.

Global professional services company, Turner & Townsend, which is majority owned by CBRE, will also relocate to Town Hall Place to accommodate the significant growth of its business.

Developed and constructed by Lendlease, Town Hall Place will be a mixed-use precinct located at 25 Swanston Street featuring a 10-storey, next generation workplace with approximately 16,000sqm of floor space. It will be developed directly above the Metro Tunnel’s new Town Hall station and is expected to be completed in 2026.

New laneways, arcades and retail at ground level will also be created including some 2,000sqm of dining and retail set to reactivate Scott and Cocker Alleys.

Exceptional transport access throughout the CBD is a key drawcard for CBRE with the precinct’s seamless integration into the new underground Metro Tunnel, and located across from Flinders Street Station with major tram connections at its doorstep.

The team will enjoy access to the building’s generous outdoor terraces with views spanning Melbourne’s landmark sites including Federation Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, Flinders Street Station, the Arts Centre and the MCG, along with world-class dining and entertainment at its doorstep.

As a future tenant, and commercial and retail leasing partner on the project, the move expands a longstanding relationship between CBRE and Lendlease and reflects CBRE’s confidence in the new workplace as specialists in the sector.

Town Hall Place will support CBRE’s sustainability and emissions reduction targets with the all-electric office building powered 100 per cent by renewable energy for base building operations. The building will target a 6 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.2 rating and a WELL Gold Core rating.

CBRE is a leasing agent for the remaining office space and ground floor retail areas and will manage the building when complete.

Tom Mackellar, Managing Director Development, Australia, Lendlease

The demand for highly sustainable, next generation workplaces remains strong. We continue to invest and innovate in sustainable and flexible workplaces which will support our tenants to grow their staff engagement and support high performance.

“As commercial specialists, CBRE recognise the increasing importance of the overall workplace experience and Town Hall Place will offer them a sought-after workplace lifestyle in an iconic location with great access to transport.”

Jarrod Frazer, Executive Managing Director, Victoria, CBRE

“Town Hall Place reflects our people, our culture and the way we connect locally as a global business. It’s not a stereotypical office tower, but instead provides a clear point of difference as a lower-rise building in the very heart of the city, which will bring our people together in an aspirational, tech-enabled work environment.

“The relocation will enable the continued growth of CBRE’s Victorian business while showcasing the breadth of services we deliver for clients.
